Accounting Specialist

Location/s: Effingham, IL

Description: C.E.F.S. is currently hiring for the position of full-time Accounting Specialist. This position assists in all accounting/bookkeeping duties for the agency including maintaining and reconciling a complex general ledger with numerous funding sources, as well as payroll and payroll tax reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and analyzing financial statements that compare budgets to actual. Computer competency in Microsoft Office programs, accounting, spreadsheet analysis, and word processing. Must be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field OR associate degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field, and at least three years of relevant accounting experience.

Teacher

Description:  School year position, 40 hrs./wk. M-F. Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field with equivalent credit hours to a major in Early Childhood Education required. Must hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) with an early childhood education endorsement or have a Gateway ECE Credential Level 5 while pursuing a PEL. Must be at least 21.

Teacher Assistant

Description:   School year position, 40 hrs./wk. M-F. Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education and one year of experience teaching preschool-age children preferred; minimum requirement: high school diploma or equivalent and possess a preschool CDA or meet all requirements to submit an application to obtain a preschool CDA within 12 weeks of hire. Must be at least 19.

Description:  School year position, 40-hrs./wk. M-F. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least 18. Experience working with preschool-age children preferred.

Location/s: Effingham, IL

Description: The position is seasonal (October - May) and works out of the CEFS Administration Office in Effingham, IL. Responsibilities include assisting with implementation of all aspects of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The job requires computer skills, strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and professional demeanor. Ability to use MS Office required. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Must meet pre-employment requirements. Associate degree preferred, High School diploma or GED required.

C.E.F.S. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is hiring for the following position:

RSVP Specialist

Location/s: Fayette County

Description: This full-time position is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and placing volunteers 55 and older in volunteer opportunities within Fayette County. The RSVP Specialist will also work with community members and non-profits to establish volunteer opportunities that meet the Retired Senior Volunteer Program guidelines. Candidates must be willing to meet with organizations and community leaders to establish volunteer opportunities, locate volunteers to fill positions, and complete weekly/monthly reports. Training and support will be provided but the candidate must be self-driven, motivated to succeed, have good follow-through, and a desire to build the program. Computer, Microsoft Office, and data entry skills needed. Associate degree preferred; however, experience in marketing, human services, and/or business will be considered in lieu of degree; high school diploma or equivalent required, and a valid Illinois driver’s license.

C.E.F.S. Outreach is hiring for the following position:

Outreach Resource Specialist

Location/s: Sullivan, IL

Description: CEFS is looking for an Outreach Resource Specialist in Moultrie County. As part of the Outreach team, the Resource Specialist will assist with waiting room activities, including answering phones and greeting customers, scheduling, and office maintenance. The Resource Specialist is a key position in running the food pantry. This includes stocking shelves, preparing food boxes, unloading food deliveries, and maintaining food pantry records. This position may work directly with customers, under the guidance of other Outreach staff in defined areas including information and referrals, benefit enrollment, and assistance with the tax program. The position is located at the C.E.F.S. Outreach Office in Sullivan. An associate's degree is preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.

Housing Counselor

Location/s: Taylorville, IL

Description: Duties may include recruitment, intake, eligibility determination, assessment, counseling, casework, and the development of an individual’s goals and perspectives in becoming self-sufficient. The Housing Counselor also assists in liaison work for the program with all persons, parties, and entities, both public and private as assigned. Duties will require travel, training in homeownership services, and home visits/inspections. This position will require HUD Certification within 6 months of hire. Associate degree preferred and/or experience in social services preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.

Outreach Coordinator

Location/s: Taylorville, IL

Description: CEFS is seeking an Outreach Coordinator in Christian County. Responsibilities include local office oversight and the implementation and management of C.E.F.S. programs within the county including homeless and housing assistance, emergency food and shelter, budget and housing counseling, tax filing, utility assistance, and senior health insurance counseling. This position will also link programs that the agency operates with other existing county programs and services to ensure clients receive the most comprehensive assistance available. Bachelor’s degree preferred; associate degree required. Must be able to relate and communicate with the target population and community leaders. Base of operations is in Taylorville, IL.

C.E.F.S. Central Illinois Public Transit (CIPT) is hiring for the following positions: 

Program Manager

Location/s: Effingham, IL

Description: C.E.F.S. Central Illinois Public Transit is seeking a Program Manager responsible for the oversight and operation of the public transportation system in accordance with agency policies/procedures. Responsibilities include grant preparation assistance, record keeping/reporting, management of IT components, onboarding, marketing, and staff supervision. Associate’s degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required. Competency in computerized data-management required; knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Print Shop, or similar system/software is required. Leadership abilities and effective supervisory and communication skills are a must. The base of operations is in Effingham, IL.

Public Transit Drivers

Location/s: Effingham, Shelby, and Montgomery counties

Description: C.E.F.S. Central Illinois Public Transit is looking for Full-time, Part-time, and Substitute Drivers. No experience is needed, will train. Benefits for full-time drivers include health, dental, vision, personal time, vacation time, sick time, paid holidays, a 403(b) annuity, and a $1000 sign-on bonus. Not interested in full-time, being a substitute might be right for you! Choose the assignments you wish to accept; all we ask is that you be willing to work at minimum 3 days per month. Candidates must have a High School diploma or equivalent and a valid Class D license. C.E.F.S. is a drug-free workplace and applicants must pass a pre-employment screening including a pre-employment drug test. Must be willing to obtain CDL during employment with agency-provided training and support.

Transit Dispatcher/Driver - Full-Time

Location/s: Effingham, IL

Description: C.E.F.S. Central Illinois Public Transit/Effingham Public Transportation is hiring a full-time Dispatcher/Driver based in the Effingham office. The dispatch responsibilities will include scheduling transportation requests, coordination/monitoring of daily routes, management of contract routes, vehicle and driver assignments, maintaining communications with driver and operations, validation of daily trip sheets, and ensuring accuracy of records. Driver responsibilities include serving the public transportation needs with care to ensure the safety of the customers and vehicles and provide exceptional customer service.


Dispatch hours are Monday through Friday with variable shifts between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. as needed. Driving hours will vary based on need and location but will typically vary Monday – Friday between 5:30 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. with a minimum of two days a month in driver capacity. A generous benefit package includes vacation time, sick time, flex time, paid holidays, health insurance, vision, dental and a 403(b)-retirement plan.


Preferred candidates should possess strong computer skills, customer service aptitude, numerical and analytical skills, ability to think creatively, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills. High School Diploma or equivalent is required, Associate’s preferred. Candidates must be willing to obtain a CDL
with passenger endorsement within the first year of employment with agency provided training.
